Post is suitable for all readers.Of course, as one plans to have a big day out - 12 hours straight partying, one inevitably comes down with a stupid sickness a week or less before.  Yes, yes… I know, I don’t believe in colds. Well this wasn’t a cold was it? Bloody sinusitis.  I spent the better part of last week feeling sorry for myself and glaring at the TV stuffing myself full of medication in hope that I’d live to see the concert.

Thankfully the worst was over by Thursday and Friday I was feeling a almost 100%. Mmmm Friday. MyCokeFest 2007!

As for local bands, my girlfriend and I arrived in time for The Parlotones to climb on stage. They put on an excellent performance and kept up with the international bands (IMHO – better than some of them).

The Nudies were up to standard. Although their first few songs – I’m convinced the sound was buggered. They played some of their heavier stuff to loosen up people’s necks, then went onto play their classic commercial stuff.

By this stage (pun unintended for a change) we needed to wet our whistles. Off to the beer tent we went only to encounter the staff behind the bar packing up garbage and ignoring all patrons.  After an attempted riot at the beer tents, Anja and I gave up on getting any booze. I heard a pretty cool quote, but I’m not quite sure who said it “Never underestimate the stupidity of people in large groups.” Add alcohol to that along with their withdrawal. Fun times.

Next on the agenda was Hoobastank. Wow. They put on a show of note. If you get the opportunity to see them live, don’t pass it up.

The men’s “area” was starting to become a bit of a marsh land at about this time (7ish?). Understandable. Nasty none the less.  (Yes, I did need to share that with you.) 50 000 people apparently. That’s a lot of bladders that need emptying.

Enter Staind. Two things amazing about this performance. The first was the duet with lead singer Aaron Lewis and Amy Lee from Evanescence. The second was how the guitarist Mike Mushok managed to head bang throughout nearly every song. Although I think the amount of phlegm he spat out every two minutes will attest to the fact that maybe it wasn’t head banging so much as trying to clear his sinuses.

3 Doors down burst onto stage with a smashing performance of Kryptonite and all their other brilliant songs. I for one didn’t realise how many of their songs I knew. Damn. This band was a bit of a surprise. For some reason they were also the band that seemed a bit out. Everyone else was a bit heavier than they were. However, they put on a very good show.

Amy Lee whirled onto stage in a fresh new outfit (can’t be seen on stage twice in one night in the same outfit) and brought with her the rest of her crew from Evanescence.  They played some nice hard rock and the haunting melodies only Amy Lee can achieve on her own with a piano.

So ended our night out. The cigarette smoke and 9 hours of bouncing around was too much for us. We weren’t going to stay on for a band we didn’t know.  I’d do it again. Fun. Next time I will start out fitter and healthier. For more photos go to the gallery and look for the  My Coke Fest  2007. Below is but a pre-view.

What was the overall thoughts about Running Noses not being there?

I'm glad you asked that question, since it is on most readers noses. Since their last venture on stage, they've been rather frightened to "get back up on the horse". Especially after their bassist got his hand broken on when he tripped over a foot skater who'd made it up onto stage.  I believe foot skating isn't a crime till someone gets hurt.

It looks like you had a blast! I'm jealous, I have not been to a concert in a LOOOOONG time. It sounds like they were all bands I would enjoy, is the tour coming my way?
