Sheena decided it was a good time to moan about people not following her on twitter anymore. I was reading the
article she put up on
Nerdmag about it and was about to comment when I decided. Why comment. Blogging gives me so much more space to throw my opinions about.
For me there are a few reasons why I follow you people on twitter currently. These are:
1) To sap your brain of useful information (
read: quality content you provide)
2) I find you amusing. (hey
@ExMi vaa......)
3) I started following you to see if that comment about "Follow and you will be followed" would work.
4) You are
South African
5) I have met you IRL and we are friends and I want to keep up with what you are doing.
I have a great spread of people I am following across the globe which keeps me entertained most times of the day. But! Something that I have been meaning to do for a while now is trimming the following list using this logic:
A) Remove people from the 3 & 4 groups if they don't provide 1 and/or 2.
B) People in group 5 that are not providing 1 and/or 2 and we are using twitter like an IM -... i.e.: move them onto my IM.
I do not feel guilty about not following you because you are followed me. I want to use twitter as a tool

for amusement, but more importantly, to broaden my horizons, gain knowledge and network with people who provide me with a reaon to follow follow them. I do not believe in twitter karma as a concept, but I do find it useful as a
tool to find people who are following me that I should be following.
One of my favourite
bloggers wrote about
using twitter as a canvas. Don't just tweet for the sake of tweeting. Think about it. Will it add value. Can someone gain something from it. For me this is something I need to aspire to in my tweets. I will aim to provide quality content and if I can't; I'll aim to brighten your day with a dose of silly.
If I suddenly unfollow you - deal with it. Get my IM details if you want to chat. I am going to try cut down on chatting via twitter unless it is banter on a topic that was tweeted.
No cookies... next time, you won't have to type in your details.
